Before joining the Milwaukee Bucks in February, Doc Rivers made a request.
"Taking a job when you're about to go on the toughest road trip of the season is not the smartest decision, I even told them that: Can we wait til All-Star break?' You know, it would have been a lot nicer."
During the NBA's All-Star Media Day on Saturday, Rivers, who will coach the Eastern Conference team at Sunday's All-Star Game, shared his thoughts.
The Bucks hired Rivers on Jan. 26 to replace Joe Prunty, who was serving as interim head coach after the dismissal of Adrian Griffin on Jan. 23. Rivers made his coaching debut on Jan. 29 in Denver, and the Bucks played four away games before returning to Milwaukee on Feb. 8. Under Rivers' guidance, their record stands at 3-7.
When Griffin was fired, the Bucks had a 30-13 record, but their defense struggled, allowing 116.8 points per 100 possessions. Since Rivers took over, their defense has improved slightly to 113.6 points per 100 possessions. However, their offense has declined notably.
Despite strong performances from Antetokounmpo and Lillard, their chemistry hasn't met expectations. With Rivers at the helm, they've scored just 111.9 points per 100 possessions, compared to 120.6 under Griffin. Currently third in the East, the Bucks are facing pressure from the seventh-place Heat, with a slim lead. They ended the pre-All-Star loop break with two losses, including one to the Grizzlies.
