In New York, OG Anunoby has recently undergone surgery on his right elbow, necessitating a minimum three-week absence from the court. This leaves the Knicks devoid of their entire starting frontcourt until after the All-Star break.

The procedure involved the removal of a loose bone fragment from Anunoby's elbow, with the exact timing undisclosed by the team. Initially listed with right elbow inflammation, the diagnosis was later updated to bone spur inflammation in the Knicks' injury report prior to their matchup against Dallas.

The Knicks announced that Anunoby will undergo evaluation in three weeks, coinciding with All-Star forward Julius Randle's absence due to a separated shoulder and center Mitchell Robinson's recovery from ankle surgery, scheduled to commence on-court activities post-break beginning Feb. 16. Anunoby's arrival from Toronto bolstered the Knicks' performance, propelling them to a 14-2 record in January following his integration into the starting lineup on New Year's Day. Coach Thibodeau expressed uncertainty about whether Anunoby was already contending with the injury upon his arrival.

Since the trade that involved RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley heading to the Raptors, Anunoby has maintained an average of 15.6 points over 14 games.
